Fantastic Day!

First Light just got done playing for the installation of the new pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran Church - Rev Dr. Michael McFarland. What a great day it was with lots of friends and music and worshiping and God’s word and even a balancing act thrown in (see the sermon video to catch the “act”).  Over the past few days several things have been happening to make things difficult for the musical groups involved in the service. One of these directly affected First Light - our singer Barb’s daughter had a medical emergency that required her to be rushed to Duke for testing. We found out two days before we played that Barb wouldn’t make it.  So we called my daughter Anna and she filled in by singing the songs of ours that she knew. We couldn’t do our newest material with Barb, but at least we could still play. Anna did a fine job and we ended up having a lot of fun.

At one point we were ready to start one of our original songs that includes a section where we normally invite the audience to sing along with us and teach them the section. This time we just started the song with no instruction. I leaned over to Ed and wondered out loud if anyone would join us. Not only did a lot of people join us but I saw several people who were singing all the words to the whole song! I have to tell you, as a songwriter it is just thrilling to see someone singing your song just because they want to and they like it. It’s doubly thrilling when they’re singing about Jesus and what He can do in our lives.

At this point things are on hold until we find out about Barb’s daughter. Please keep her and the rest of the band in your prayers.
